The February guest editorial titled “Racial Disparities in Oral Health Care: Black Dentists Disproportionately Fill and Feel the Equity Gap” (Frazier-Bowers SA, Murdoch-Kinch CA, Martinez-Mier EA. JADA. 2024;155[2]:91-93) reminded readers about the tragic and unnecessary death of Deamonte Driver due to complications from an untreated dental infection in 2007. It is an undeniable tragedy that underscores the importance of access to oral health care. However, to truly honor Driver and bring attention to this critical flaw in the US health care system, it is essential to take a broader view of this issue.
