In 2020, the American Dental Association’s Health Policy Institute reported that the racial and ethnic mix of the US dentist workforce did not reflect the US population.1 Only 3.8% of US dentists are Black and 5.9% are Hispanic/Latinx. This disparity was apparent when I was a dental student at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry.
