For the first time, dental medicines and preparations are among the latest additions to the World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines1 and World Health Organization Model List of Essential Medicines for Children.2,3 After the rigorous evaluation and technical review of a World Health Organization (WHO) expert panel, fluoride toothpaste, silver diamine fluoride (SDF), and glass ionomer cement were included.4 All 3 are presented in a new category of “dental preparations,” complementing the previous listing of sodium fluoride.
