Smart eating for your braces

You know how you can’t bite into an apple when you have braces, or enjoy hard or sticky foods? This can be a frustrating experience when you first get your braces, especially if you are used to a certain diet and are interested in eating cleanly and freely.

The good thing is that you can still eat smart when you get braces–in fact, it’s recommended! Eating a healthy diet will help you maintain equally as healthy gums and teeth in the process. Here’s a list of clean, smart foods you can (and should!) eat when you have braces.

Fruits and veggies, sliced or blended

Sliced apples and carrots
Whole bananas
Hearty, leafy greens like spinach and kale
Canned fruit
Avocado
Berries
Cooked vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower
Peppers
And more!

Dairy and/or nut milks for calcium and protein

Nut milks like almond or cashew
Soft cheeses
Yogurt
Eggs

Whole grains for fibre

Barley
Brown rice
Soft whole wheat breads
